Please take a moment to read through this information before booking your appointment. Because we are a teaching clinic, we invite you to include a clinical student as an observer in your consultation. This is a very important part of our educational model, but you have the option to decline at any time. **If you would like to opt out of student observation, please be sure to select an appointment for Professional Clinic, No Student Observation.** Thank you in advance for helping us to further the practice of herbalism through our students.

Professional clinicians are highly trained and experienced herbalists who offer personalized education in self-care with herbs. Initial sessions last approximately two hours, and are devoted to exploring the interplay between body, mind, and spirit as herbalist and client co-create a plan for optimal wellness. You should expect to have at least two subsequent visits, which range in length from 30 minutes to an hour.

We offer flexible payment options for all herbs and services including sliding scale payment, time exchange, and the offer of partial or full gift. You may purchase custom formulations according to your herbalist’s recommendations from our full-service apothecary. You are welcome to purchase herbs elsewhere and we are happy to provide a list of reputable sources.

We also offer appointments with student interns through our Student Clinic. To book an appointment with one of our student interns or learn more about the Student Clinic, please contact us at (802) 224-7100 or info@vtherbcenter.org.

PLEASE READ BEFORE MAKING AN APPOINTMENT: Larken has limited clinical availability, so she is currently only taking new clients with health goals that fall within her areas of specialization: mental health, trauma and resilience. This includes experiences of depression, anxiety, chronic stress, trauma (PTSD and C-PTSD), ADHD, insomnia and related neuropsychological and cognitive concerns.

Of course, we are integrated systems and our mental-emotional-spiritual health can’t truly be separated from other aspects of our health. With this in mind, if you’re not sure whether your goals for working with an herbalist fall within Larken’s specialization, feel free to email her directly at Larken@vtherbcenter.org with a brief summary of your concerns and goals for her to review before you schedule.

Current clients are always welcome to schedule follow up appointments regardless of the focus of their concerns.

More about Larken: Larken’s clinical approach is one of partnership, centering each client’s self-knowledge and agency to choose the support and outcomes they desire. She uses a bio-psycho-socio-ecological model that acknowledges that our health is not an individual experience and our communities and environments are key determinants of both our illness and our healing.

Having studied and practiced as an herbalist for over 30 years, with 20+ years of clinical practice oriented around emotional and psychological wellbeing, Larken continues to add to her experience and knowledge through professional development. She has specialized training in Somatic Experiencing, integrative somatic coaching, radical ecopsychology, relational culture, integrative trauma therapy, mind-body medicine, shiatsu and massage, ear acupuncture (NADA protocol), conflict resolution, and graduate level coursework in mental health counseling, in addition to a master’s degree in clinical herbal medicine.

Her training and experience has led her to see health and illness as relational, political and ecological–meaning we must look to our connections with family and community, to our social and political systems of care and harm, and to our relationship with more-than-human nature to see what causes our illness and what resources we have to reduce harm and move towards resilience.

In addition to her work as a clinical herbalist, she is co-founder and core-faculty at VCIH and offers ecosomatic coaching and clinical mentorship to the broader herbal community. She’s also a gardener, writer, and photographer deeply inspired by a life-long love affair with plants. Her work is rooted in commitments to anti-oppressive and liberatory healing for all beings, to bridging traditional medical systems with biomedical sciences and, ultimately, to restoring Nature to culture through herbal medicine.

Netta Mae is a clinical herbalist and teacher as well as a mama, activist/organizer, outdoor adventurer, and magic-maker.

Netta is committed to bringing clients high quality herbal consultations and formulas specifically designed to meet their individual needs according to their physiological and energetic patterns. She sees herself as a match maker between the plants and her clients, following their lead to collaborate on a plan forward. She enjoys working with individuals to integrate magic and ritual with science; and is forever grateful to the plants as allies in our work.

She is dedicated to accessible care for all people, especially teens and youth, queer and trans folks, families, and people who typically may not have access to alternative healing modalities. She works with all health concerns and goals but has special interests in healing trauma and supporting the nervous system which is so needed for all of us living in late stage capitalism.

Netta Mae graduated from the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism in 2015 and never left! She has been teaching and practicing as a clinical herbalist with VCIH since 2016. She is dedicated to continue learning and growing herself and considers it a great privilege to be a part of that journey for others.

Netta lives and practices on Koasek Abenaki land and she is in deep gratitude to the people whose ancestral land she is on. She is constantly working on what it means to be an ally through healing work and teaching, especially in the occupied territories of North America.
